Konono No 1 - Congotronics [2005]

"unheralded genius" . . . The sound! Some musicians from Congo play likembés (the things on the album cover), various drums, and a guitar or two, and the resulting sound is like magic! Once somebody outside of Congo heard them, their popularity spread and now they're the shit! Touring all around doing their awesome thing. Fun great stuff!

Dengue Fever - Cannibal Courtship [2011]

AWESOME band! Cambodian pop mixed with psychedelia rock, and the combination is SO goddamn good! You will enjoy this! ....(I'm seeing them live on Monday, woo!) . . . BUY THE RECORD. (I did.)

Kemialliset Ystävät - Kemialliset Ystävät [2007]

Wacky, noisy, spastic, somehow also calming? ... "detuned guitars, mandolins, balalaikas, toys, hand percussion, and samples from recordings by Sun Ra, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Vibracathedral Orchestra." ... Play this loud and it'll sound really freaky.

Tortoise - Millions Now Living Will Never Die [1996]

Tortoise, pronounced French-style, "Tor-twah". Known as a "groundbreaking album for post-rock". So there you have it. Frenchies making post-rock. (they're actually from Chicago). Ba-boom.

Circle Jerks - Group Sex [1980]

Moebius - Tonspuren [1983]

I'm out of words to use for another kraut album post. I'm sorry. In this case, there has been, indeed, too much kraut. I'll try my best at this time however. Here I go: This one's good. Ouch. Ooh, that hurt. Download this *cringe* .... Less kraut next time.

Neu! - Neu! 75 [1975]

More classic kraut for you! This one is great. Really. It is. Don't let the plain black and white, large-print album cover and funny unfamiliar word throw you off. Get this!!

Can - Flow Motion [1976]

Another album from one of the Krautrock biggies. Can. Can. Let's repeat that. Can. Now, I know what you're thinking, "why I am I still reading this?". Let me assure you, I don't expect you to be. Can. Not like soup-"can". But like you'd imagine a German movie actor from the 80's to say to the car porter as he steps out of his Mercedes at the Hollywood premier of some movie, "If I will find a scratch on my automobile, I can make you pay badly for it." Like that.

Kraftwerk - Computerwelt [1981]

Computerwelt, or, "Computer World" (for all you deutsch-ignants out there, lol jk no hey srsly?) . . Classic album from the timeless Kraftworld. Kraftwelt. Huh? Kraft what? Oh, Kraftwerk. Weird. Here it is, better enjoy it.

Minutemen - The Punch Line [1981]

"I believe when they found the body of General George A. Custer,
quilled like a porcupine with indian arrows,
he didn't die with any honor, any dignity, nor any valor.
I wouldn't doubt when they found George A. Custer,
an American general patriot and indian fighter,
he died with shit in his pants."

The Great Minutemen. With 18 songs on this album, the total length weighs in at only 15 minutes. A classic! Nobody else like 'em! Get this!

Omar Souleyman - Jazeera Nights: Folk/Pop Sounds of Syria [2010]

Another posting by popular demand! It's...   THE SOULEYMAN!
Son, I tell you, you go hop in one of your Escalade's, put this on, get the volume crankin' (bass up), and go cruisin' in the parking lots of busy shopping areas. Roll the windows down, and prepare yourself. You will be thrown more love from your fellow people than you will be able to handle. . . You know who don't LOVE the OMAR?! . . NOBODY! . . This should blow your mind, so... Be careful.

Tom Waits - Swordfishtrombones [1983]

James Brown - Revolution Of The Mind: Live Vol. 3 [1971]

Revolution Of The Mind: Live At The Apollo Vol. 3 . . . is the full name of this fuckin' AMAZING album. The Godfather of Soul. At the top of his game, in my opinion. Don't get no better than this.

A Perfect Circle - eMOTIVe [2004]

Ok folks, I'm going to upload some more-well-known albums for a little while. I monitor the page view count for this blog, and uh... it's no good. And this is how I react to that. Nice huh?

This album, one of my favorites. It is partly a cover album, these songs: Imagine (Lennon), Peace Love and Understanding (Lowe), What's Going On (Gaye), Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie (Black Flag), People Are People (Depeche Mode), Freedom Of Choice (Devo), Let's Have A War (Fear), When The Levee Breaks (Zeppelin), Fiddle And The Drum (Mitchell) ... Make this album worth checking out. As well as a few of the originals also on here.

Hototogisu - Floating Japanese Oof! Gardens Of The 21st Century [2001]

Long album name, I know. I just started listening to this album about an hour ago.......... OMG!!!!!! I NEED MOOOOORE!!!! This is perfect. Classified as "experimental/noise/drone", this is so much more LIVELY. Whereas all other stuff in that genre usually is depressing and stale and boring to me; this is really the opposite... Wonderful! I see there's at least a dozen other Hototogisu titles, I'll definitely be checking them out. Great stuff here!

Ammer/Einheit/Haage - Odysseus 7 [1998]

(Long description:) One of kind record here!! This is a really interesting theme, check it: The Greek "Odyssey" tale, BUT............ (here it comes) .......... in space. Yea. Seriously. It's really great. Guy named Andreas Ammer wrote the poem and the lyrics and set it all up, then FM Einheit (from Neubauten) and Ulrike Haage come in and make the music and put it all together... Fuckin' amazing. Interesting take on the story, unique atmosphere, odd vocalizations (from the great Phil Minton)... Really, what a listen! Love this one.

Hanoi Rocks - Self Destruction Blues [1982]

Now now, boys and girls. You shouldn't make fun. What if YOU were born in the 50's or 60's, in Finland, and joined a hair metal band in the 80's? Maybe it'd be YOU looking like this. No but really, these guys can write a good song, and they did it a few times for this album. Plus, I mean, come on. Finnish hair metal? Fuck yea? Fuck yea.

Lil Daggers - Lil Daggers [2011]

I like these guys. I think they're cool and have a good sound. There. Does that explain this album enough? Like I said before; I suck at describing music so... my word will have to do it for ya. And if my word doesn't cut it, well then... Maybe it would be time for us to schedule some things up. Wadda ya say? And hey, you know, like, when you're cutting up lettuce, to like, put in your salad, and shit, and like, you can see that the lettuce is kind of like, green, in color, and shit, and like, it looks good to eat. Well, like, it looks those ways because it's true. Green. Tasty. Yes! It is lettuce! You must be reeeeeally uninterested in this blog and my stuff now, if you made it all the way through this posting so far, and really, that's ok. I will sleep good knowing the fact that you know I will be getting good sleep, pretty much no matter what happens. Lest on this blog. Lest? ..............Shhhhhhh... here's the music:

Manu Chao - La Radiolina [2007]

You know guys, I suck at describing things, especially music. So uh, while I can't really say this is a superbly-put-together, genre-bouncing/melting, fun, catchy album from a guy who knows how to write a tune, I CAN say... I like this album. And YOU will too! Or your money back. (what?)

I don't know anything about this, so keep your mouths shut you fucking hipsters. Hipsters listen to this kind of stuff, right? I have no idea. All I know is this is cool. Sorry for calling you a hipster. I'm sure you're not. But shut up, if you are. Good album!

Lisa Germano - In The Maybe World [2006]

I listened to this album for the first time in years and was like "daaaaamn, why did I stop listening to this" . . . Lisa's awesome, this album is a gem of great songs. I play the song "Into Oblivion" on loop, can't get enough. Something about the way she does things on this album keeps my interest happenin'. Very good.

Meshuggah - Chaosphere [1998]

OK, now this album is not for everyone. Let's just get that right out there in the open from the beginning, I'd hate to wake up tomorrow morning to the sound of a mob breaking my windows and the smell of my neighborhood burning down. Most people who aren't weird metal head people typically react neutrally or negatively when they hear this kind of music. So that said, this is a really amazing album and Meshuggah is one-of-a-kind. <3

Lusine ICL - Language Barrier [2007]

Magniferous. Serene. Magnanimous. Pristine. Edgeless, Blended, Enveloping, Smooth, Subtle, Perfection. I used to listen to all kinds of "electronic"... ambient, idm, minimal, experimental, dark ambient blabla, and this album was like the untouchable one, compared to all the rest... Perfect music for going to sleep to. Even better than that ENO guy!

Puscifer - V is for Vagina [2007]

The name alone should tell anybody how fucking great this album is. The man behind this is one named Maynard James Keenan, whom you may know of from such acts as Tool, and A Perfect Circle. This music is nothing like those bands. So you better be ready to get into your birthday suit and wrestle in a pool of olive oil with the hottest girls you can find for $100. What? Thomas Wydler & Toby Dammit - Morphosa Harmonia [2004]

I like this album a lot. These guys have worked with good people throughout the years... Nick Cave, the Swans, Iggy Pop, Lydia Lunch... A good album to listen to when you've drank Jägermeister and are laying on your bed (or on your cardboard mat, floor, pile of bramble bushes, beanbag, Shetland Pony, etc etc) but don't really want to get up or go to sleep. Perfect for that. In my experience at least.

The Partisans - Police Story [1981]

Marnie Stern - Marnie Stern [2010]

THIS CHICK!! Ho-ho! Wow. She's the shit. Her song, "Female Guitar Players Are the New Black"... she's totally right about that. One of a kind stuff here! Featuring the frenetic drumming of one Zach Hill, this album is full of energy, catchiness, rhythmic tom-foolery, and even lyrics to contemplate your navel upon. Totally fresh! Love it!

The Stooges - Fun House [1970]

ABOUT TIME I POSTED THIS! I know, I know.... No really! Put down your pitchforks, people! Give me a break, please! .... Smokey & Miho - The Two EPs [2003]

Ok, I know. A little concept going here. First a Yuka Honda album, and NOW a Miho Hatori album. Forgive me if it's a little too much for you. ~~~ This is great stuff too. I don't know about this "Smokey" character, but I CAN endorse Miho Hatori, the other half of the band Cibo Matto. This album is "lovely" (it's hard for me to say that, or even type it), but it really is. Wikipedia says it's bossa nova, and samba, and I can hear that, but of course it's different, duh. A wonderful album.

Yuka Honda - Heart Chamber Phantoms [2010]

This is a good album, real enjoyable. Yuka Honda is known mostly for being one half of the band Cibo Matto back in the 90's. This album seems perfect for a night consisting of staying in your room, smoking pot by yourself, and reading a learn-a-foreign-language book. I've done two of those three things. Guess which one I didn't...

Einstürzende Neubauten - Halber Mensch [1985]
